Making My Spirit Smile
Seeing the Blessing in the Storm
(The Excerpts)
The strength to smile despite my past traumas, disappointments, and regrets came from a powerful source of inspiration. While smiling on the outside to give the false appearance of happiness, an image men and women have portrayed throughout history, my soul cried out, I’m dying. So I asked myself, How can a dark-skinned, big-eyed, skinny little insecure country girl experience a smile within her soul.
Years ago I was urged in my spirit to write a book about my life. As the trials and tribulations seemed to overshadow me, this journey of writing my first book seemed to be just a dream. As the years passed, people I encountered spoke and prophesied about my book. However, shame and rejection seemed to play a vital role in the delay of my writing.
Love—nothing is more significant. I told myself that my daughter was going to know her mother loves her. She smelled like the air after a spring dew. I felt love without conditions, love that seals till death, love that can’t be described. I knew it was my duty to provide, protect, and show her the love that wasn’t given to me. I was determined that my daughter would hear “I love you” every day. I said it all the time, to the point that my daughter responds, “I know, Mom—and everyone knows!”
