ABOUT THE AUTHOR

MARGARET JEFFERSON

Margaret Jefferson was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in the Austin Community on the West side of the city. Despite facing financial challenges at times, she had the support of both her parents, as well as the love and encouragement of her family and friends. From a young age, she was instilled with the importance of faith and knowing God.However, on November 9, 2007, her life took a tragic turn when she gave birth to her first and only child, "Jaivon," who later lost his life due to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) or Domestic Violence. This devastating event profoundly changed Margaret's life, leading her to lean on her faith in God even more. She grappled with confusion and uncertainty about her purpose in the wake of this tragedy.

​Margaret had a deep passion for learning, which served as an escape from her harsh reality. She pursued her education diligently, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) in Chicago, IL, and later a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW), graduating with honors. Her dedication and commitment to addressing issues of violence against women earned her the Violence Against Women Act Award (VAWA) from the former Mayor and State's Attorney.

Margaret has since become a powerful advocate, using her own story to raise awareness and speak out against IPV and DV. She has shared her experiences at various events, including the UIC 25th Homicide Victim Memorial, Concert for America, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and many others. Her goal is to offer hope and inspiration to others by sharing her truth.
Currently, Margaret is working on writing books that aim to uplift and empower individuals to find their purpose. She is also in the process of establishing a resource center in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. Her passion is to be a beacon of light for those in dark places by sharing her personal journey. Margaret finds healing and fulfillment in speaking out about her past traumas, and she sees it as a way to give back to others.  Her family and friends describe her as a true blessing in their lives, noting her unwavering dedication to making a positive difference in society.
